Finally - GC + Dominoes

Post by Jay »

Just checked when I took the first photo for this build... 't was May 2016. It has been rocking for a while but could not finalise the Dominoes to my liking. After fine tuning the bridge coils, I am now happy with the bridge Domino (or BadLad as I call them). The neck pickup may also need some fine tuning but I leave that for now until I have received some feedback.

Yesterday I wired it all up and finished the Gretsch Copy. Would you believe it that only then I found a peculiar aspect of the Badlads which is very unusual...

Anyway, here are the photos of the finished GC. Haven't though about a pickguard yet.

ps - note that I have compressed the photos to allow for a QUICK download, don't wanna waste any of your valuable time :)

Great stuff!

I have to ask...did we make the right call on that neck? Just gluing it in that is?!

Love the knots - Fred Gretsch would be proud.

Thanks, I have learned lots on this archtop build and if I ever were to make another one it should be a bit quicker I hope.

Yes, glued the neck in without further mods so its held in place by the sides and back. I don't think it will come out in a hurry.

Those Dominoes are a pain to make though, no wonder Ray (and everyone else) went with a single coil with pole pieces.

That would be great if you could test drive it and provide some 'feedback'...

Ta, I am still inclined buying T-Armonds just to see how this guitar stacks up with Dynasonics...

Excellent work , really cool result.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Curious to hear more about this too.

Is there are reason that the two pickups have different mounting screw placements?
