Tonewood opinions
someone on Faceboob is selling this glued body/timber
It's Maple, Purpleheart, Mahogany, Purpleheart Maple.
Very weird combo.
considering picking it up and doing another project.
just not sure about combining maple and purpleheart.

For 50 bucks you're basically losing money if you don't buy it

Re: Tonewood opinions
Simple answer- turn it into a Steinberger Cricket Bat. You'd lose like 75% of the weight just like that!Bg wrote:Think he said it was 7Kg, put me off straight away....handsoffmatt wrote:Holy crap. That would be HEAVY!!!!

Re: Tonewood opinions
It'll be heavy as hell. But it'll go down to maybe 4kg after working, and you could hollow out the body and attach a top to shave some weight.
Sound would be bright and tight with a lot of sustain.

Get it while you can. It will never be as heavy as my 6KG strat....
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Re: Tonewood opinions
I reckon it'll have tight lows, haunting mids and a real top end sparkle.
Seriously though it'll sound like whatever pickups you put in it

not far from the truth though haha.sirvill wrote:I reckon it'll have tight lows, haunting mids and a real top end sparkle.

acoustics is where tonewood really tends to make a difference.
I didn't see the 7kg until now
stuff that.
Maple alone is super heavy
He intended to make a bass guitar body out of it. makes sense if you're wanting to pop your top end.
Can't afford to do any builds atm after buying the Paloma Doozy.. - but Purpleheart(having worked with it before) is a nightmare and costs a few router bits $$ to work.. haha
just saw the listing and it got my guitar project itch going.

Re: Tonewood opinions
headstock options are a bit slim
There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

Re: Tonewood opinions
how long is that piece? If that body is regular sized there's no chance you'd fit a full scale neck on there.

Maybe he was going for one of those basses with a giant top horn thing to counterbalance. The ones that looked like a bass survived Chernobyl but is permanently effected by radioactive mutation.
