I spotted the beater I bought from CC in Henderson.

Where is a good place to source wood for body blanks around Auckland?

I got most of my stuff from http://timspec.co.nz/ .. they are quite expensive I think. You could maybe contact adrian on here (http://ashcustomworks.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/ashcustomworks/ )

he doesn't seem to be making many guitars any more but I could have a supply of woods he might sell ya (he's in papakura)

little update finally

the ebony neck didn't end up on the Star body. made the mistake of asking wife and kids which looked better so it ended up like this

but I am about to pull it apart and plane off the top and do more weight relief because it is WAY to heavy....currently it weighs 5.2kgs (11.45 pounds)

the good news though is I had to find a new home for the ebony neck so I used some of the blackwood I have left and built this

Image

went custom Lynch on it using sign writers Vinyl (thanks for the tip ages ago Danny...cheap off cuts ). Got to say it turned out pretty cool but most importantly it sounds amazing...slightly "scooped mids" and a whole lot of top end from the ebony...it just sings through the EVH. I'm actually wondering of the neck has SS frets because it feels "harder" than most necks, which is the feeling I got when I play a couple of guitars with SS frets
