Might be too late but I have always just got my tolex from eBay.

I did have a big roll of jansen tolex - it was pretty narrow though so you'd probably need to joint it. And I'm not sure if I biffed it during a clean out. Will have a look over the weekend.

Don't worry, I'll see how it goes first with this head. Can easily make another head to accommodate more conservative members (if I was concerned about their taste).
Looking at Bender's website recommendation, I actually quite like these Tolex samples:

Big respect for this project.
If you need a hand with the faceplate I'm happy to contribute some accurate artwork recreation.
( graphics is somewhat central to my day gig and i have fond memories of my old Jansen combo, and the factory which was just up the road)

Mildly on-topic, does anyone know a place in NZ for getting nice graphics printed onto metal? Faceplates etc

Try EmblemsNZ in Hamilton. Sandy there is into guitars. Done some pedals and other guitar bits in the past.

I intend to finish it this year. Cabinet head build and finished. Chassis needs drilling holes, I have all the parts.
It's the blimmin job that interferes with my aspirations.

With all the help you have provided, you and Slowy can be the first to trash it

Yesterday finalised the CAD for chassis holes and started work on the chassis template. Continued today and this is where it is now - plastic template and chassis all drilled and cut. Top of chassis showing the bits. Also created a metal sheet template which is not shown.

I don't think working with sheet metal will become a hobby of mine anytime soon...

Artwork complete, becoming quite proficient in CAD now (2D only). Next getting the front panel engraved.

Choice of materials limited and I prefer either white or silver on mat black. Sadly the former is on 1.6mm plastic only and the latter is not available. I spray painted galv sheet metal (0.5mm) with 5 coates of mat black and will try that too. So that would be 'silverish' on black.

Red lines are for dimensions only and obviously will not show in the end result.

Any suggestions for improvements, etc welcome but be quick as I am hoping to get it done tomorrow :)
