you should seriously consider upgrading the mains chord to a 3-wire mains chord with a proper safety ground.

For 3-wire mains grounding:

Disconnect the 2-wire mains chord (making a note of where the 2 leads in the old mains chord attached to the mains fuse and the PT primary winding)

Looking at the new 3-wire mains chord (you can just buy a cheap 3m-6m extn lead from the warehouse and chop the end with the 'female' socket off - strip the insulation back carefully separating and exposing the ends of the three wires inside. Flow the exposed tip of each wire up with a bit of solder)

The (brown) active (or phase) wire goes to the mains fuse, (and thence to the on-off switch and then to one end of the PT primary winding)

The (blue) neutral wire goes straight to the other end of the PT primary winding (use an insulated screw terminal to connect the leads if the PT has its own wire attached to the primary already).

The (green & yellow) earth wire gets a ring terminal soldered to it, which you then slip onto a separate, dedicated chassis bolt, fastened with a lok-nut. (you probably need to drill a 3/16" hole for the chassis bolt - 3/16" bolts and lok-nuts are cheap at Bunnings).

This way there is no risk of the chassis ever becoming floating w.r.t. ground potential, and saves you (and anyone else) accidentally getting zapped from otherwise touching a hot chassis.

Thanks. It actually is a 3 wire; I know it doesn't look like it but it's there and the earth is connected.
