Troubleshooting help please?
Hey guys,
Here's my build as it sits:
It's this layout with the dark ritual components:
And as recommended on there I'm using the madbean pedals standard wiring diagram.
I've connected the top right lug of the switch to vol 2 - basically the purple wire on the madbean diagram.
I get a clean sound with no distortion, but the engaged sound is very quiet and distorted. I have to crank the amp to hear anything. The LED lights and there's no immediate screwups with the wiring anywhere and I've checked the vero for any solder bridges to no avail. Testing the power supply shows 9.42v coming in and the same at the input on the board, and the pot is reading at 470k (I thought I may have killed it with the iron).
Is there anything immediately apparent that I've screwed up? This is my first build so I could use the pointers.
Thanks for looking.

Re: Troubleshooting help please?
The pot is not in the circuit, the middle lug needs to be connected....
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Okay, and where does the black wire on the left pot lug go to?NippleWrestler wrote:"I've connected the top right lug of the switch to vol 2 - basically the purple wire on the madbean diagram."jvpp wrote:The pot is not in the circuit, the middle lug needs to be connected....

Re: Troubleshooting help please?
That's vol 3 which goes to the board, as per the veroboard diagram.

Re: Troubleshooting help please?
for a start, your potentiometer has a wire not soldered to the board, and should pin three of the pot go to ground? Also the switching wiring looks a bit suspect, bottom left corner for instance could be a short . . . I can't tell what the white wires are doing either. Can you take a sharper photo, and where's Toany, he knows much about the dark mysteries of pedals.

Run a craft knife between each of the copper strips.
Double check the transistor pins are correct.
Can you post the top and bottom of the board?

yep, that's lug 2 which is now connected to output (top right of the switch).rickenbackerkid wrote:for a start, your potentiometer has a wire not soldered to the board, and should pin three of the pot go to ground? Lug 1 goes to ground.
Bottom left corner is grounds. On the madbean diagram you've got the ground coming off the input sleeve going to that lug, which is what I have here on mine. All the grounds are (now) at the input sleeve, which is then connected to the output jack sleeve. I've been looking for a loose/missing ground and I don't see one sadly, and after having a pull on them with pliers they're all snugly in place

Re: Troubleshooting help please?
I hesitate to offer this as I know fuck all, but could it be the metal case causing an unwanted connection?

Re: Troubleshooting help please?
Just checking ok? So you cut 4 strips in the correct place and put two links in? Measure with an ohm meter between the two pot lugs on the left. Turn the pot until that measures zero. Then between the right two lugs there should be 470kohm.
The only other suggestion i have is come over so i can have look at it...

Yep, I mentioned that. The pot measured 470k, or near enough that's it's within manufacturer tolerance.jvpp wrote:Just checking ok? So you cut 4 strips in the correct place and put two links in? I think I worked it out but I've been looking at this thing too much today and my eyes have gone weird.

The only help I can give is the first problem you have is not getting someone else to make it for you ... I still fuck up wiring a guitar and I have done it at least 30 times
