Old ass capo

Post by Single coil »

Found this in the sallies shop today. Rude not to exchange currency and bring it home.

Image

It’s a big clunky thing wot I expect is quite old. Swings open like so:

Image

Clips together like fingerjointed wood but not really.

Image

Appears to be a closed coil kind of operation - tightens when you let it go ....

Image

... and this is it “open”, squeeze and that’s it.

Image

And a picture of the spring:

Image

Anyone seen one like it before?
It’s heavy and looks like a good piece.

Yes it is in the rare section for the lols.

yeah, I have one around here like that. I think it was old when I got it a long time ago.

I've had a few for my guitars, but I've never seen an ass capo before. Maybe on-sell to jb for a small profit.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

Good score.

If I was a dentist I’d make sure that was on the tray for my patients to see just before they lie down :-)

I had to borrow one that looked very similar, I found it a bit slow to take off & on and when I bought one I got one of the trigger styles.
Epiphone Riviera P93 & EJ200CE, Hagstrom Viking Bass, Doubleneck bass/guitar.
Rivera Clubster 45, Carvin AG100D, Ashton BSK158.

It's... a capo.

I've seen that kind going back to the 1970s but I suppose they are older.

You haven't found a long lost anything: they're not as common as they used to be but you could go and buy the same lever-type capo tomorrow. ;) I hope the spring is not too worn down.

I just haven’t seen one of these before. I didn’t expect it to be rare; it’s just in the collectible part to be annoying.
