Vintage Guitar Stores

Post by Schaapveld »

Hi, I am currently in the market for a vintage guitar, and was wondering if NZ has any stores that specialise in vintage instruments as I have not found very many online. City doesn't matter as long as it is within NZ.

Cheers.

The Rock Shop was stocking the whole range of Vintage guitars. Just about style you could ask for and very good value prices too!

Last time I was there he had some cool stuff with no price tags on them. When queried on cost he always replied with 'how much do YOU thinks its worth?'. Bit of an uphill battle for a sale.

A little experience with Cadenza... He has some very cool, very quirky guitars on the walls. Not sure he ever actually sells much of it! He is a good place to look for vintage Tokai and sometimes 70s-80s Fender and Gibson, but I've not seen really old ones there.

What are you looking for?

I'm not too sure what I'll end up with haha, but currently I like the look of 70s/80s gibsons, maybe some sort of variation on the ES 335?

I might go have a look at their guitars at Cadenza, cheers.

Cadenza and Bungalowbill are of the same ilk
no prices on any gear and they seem to choose a price at random.

I was quoted the new retail price on a Tokai in Bungalow Bills. The Tokai was second hand and had a huge gouge on the top.
There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

Do you mean to say that they usually overprice things or that the prices on fluctuate a lot?

Cheers.

Bill usually overprices, Cadenza have some great stuff but you need to get to know the guy first, its always worth going in and just trying stuff/noodling, after awhile, apparently, he accepts you and then you may get a sale if you send in a sealed bid and wait for 6 months.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

The guy is definitely a little off centre. For those who remember JD, I went in there to look at a parlour guitar for her, and he was really not that keen on me taking photos of the guitar to send to her. Even though it ended up as a sale for him. He was a bit :grump:
