Those pre-auction estimates were a bit cautious. If it was TradeMe, we would have seen some tempting buy-now prices.

Yep. Too old to spend the money he already has, so is doing this for others less fortunate than himself.

It was interesting to read why he was selling this and a couple of others in his collection, but they are just tools to do a job to him and he owned a replica of the black strat that had as so close he was happy to use that when needed.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

Comment of the day?
"Well at least he got to hang on to the original pickups."

I'd have gone for #1 if I was in that league. It's a total myth, but it's a myth that will keep folks engaged for decades.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

The buyer is a player.

Owns upwards of 90 vintage guitars.

He likes the instruments to be played.

Read an article where he loaned Dylans strat out - did buy a separate plane ticket for it to get to where it was going though....
