A question for the lefties... Which direction do you turn your strat tuners?

Post by Zaulkin »

So I was helping one of my students set up his guitar for a heavier gauge of string - he's left handed.

On a right handed guitar with 6 in line tuners (like a strat), you turn the tuner so that it goes counter clockwise (to the left). Then in theory, a left handed guitar with 6 in line tuners should have them turning clockwise (to the right), if we're going for symmetry that is. Or is it always supposed to be lefty loosey, righty tighty regardless of orientation?

I just did it the way he was used to. I know that it doesn't really matter.

How does a left handed strat come from the factory?

For a left handed strat wouldn't they turn clockwise to tighten? If you wrapped the strings around the other way the string angle from the nut wouldn't be a straight line.
