NGD - NK Guitars Headless
I've wanted a strandberg headless guitar ever since I first saw the prototypes Ola was making, they were always a bit rich for my blood, but enter the wonderful people of China and their dedication to IP theft to make an affordable facsimile that I can buy on a whim and if it's terrible I can suck it up and spend some coin on making it good
First impressions are it's actually pretty decent, plays about as well as a similarly priced squier or epiphone, tuners are not as precise as I imagine the strandberg ones are, but we'll see if it holds tune! It's TINY and really quite light, when I pulled the softcase out of the polystyrene coffin it was shipped in I thought I'd been sent a ukelele it was so small!
The fit and finish is pretty decent, the only thing I've noticed so far is the routing around the battery box is a bit rough, but honestly you'll never see it, otherwise it's brilliant, tight neck pocket, and the neck is finished really nicely, shaped pretty much identically to my Mexi Tele so I feel right at home.
The pickups are actve, and sound way better than expected, they have a fair bit more gain than I'm used to with the tele, but the bridge pickup is nice and clear in clean mode on the THR and dirty up really nicely with my OD & Fuzz pedals, neck pickup I'm not hugely enamoured with, but we'll see how I feel after some more playing!
Anyway, heres some pics, for those that are interested, it was $555 on special, got pinged just under $140 for GST and so forth as altho' they'd put a low value on the package, they'd also said it was "Sample - Not for commercial use" so Customs automatically pinged it as for business use... not the end of the world, still REALLY happy with it for < $700!

Very cool mounting points on headstock. How’s the fan fret thing, and can you run it at 18v?

if You had a time machine you could pop back to 1993, head to Hastings, and there’d be a covers band that you’d fit right into with that guitar, a mullet and some tight vinyl pants!

Re: NGD - NK Guitars Headless
Fan frets feel really natural, possibly because it's so subtle, only 25" - 25.5" I believe, no 18V option unless I routed it for another battery box I guess, don't know if those pickups will take 18V, they sound decent enough at 9V tho'Single coil wrote:Very cool mounting points on headstock. Yeah, I was hanging out for when they improved the bridges, this is a big step up from the previous gen that you needed an allen wrench to tune!Zaulkin wrote:I've got to say, these guitars look pretty damn cool.
