Just wanting to give Grant a bit of a praise-up for the refret he's just done on my favourite 1990 Strat. Just an all round top bloke, kept in communication throughout with photos and updates.

Great to get it back, it's probably playing better now than it was when I bought it

Whats even more impressive is that he has what I imagine is an incredibly busy work life, a band, kids, wife, and everything else going on and still fits in time to help people out like this, true legend!

Inspiring me to diy jumbo my strat frets. Looking at the photos you install frets slightly oversize in length and trim in to fit. Do they try to jump out of the slot at the point of snipping off?
Kudos on the nut making too, something never to underestimated.

Definitely. I was kept in constant communication throughout with Grant always sending back quick replies to my stupid questions!

Good to hear. What size frets did you get on yours?

I know, water ?! I watched that video when it first came out, thought I would get 5-10mins in and be bored senseless. Watched the whole thing, was fascinating!

Just out of curiosity, how close are you to following Jonny's approaches to a refret? Guessing there's going to be a lot of similarities in the actual steps and process, but judging by your comment it maybe sounds like water isn't something you are using! Jonny looks like a very experienced professional to me but would be interested to know what you thought

Haha, well this one is going to the grave with me. It's a great guitar as it's the first one I ever bought, but I'm not afraid to mod it or anything. As such I wouldn't say it's anything near 'beloved', it's just a block of wood I enjoy picking up and using :)

I think Malmsteen has Dunlop 6000. Mine was an equivalent of 6100 I think so not really the biggest.

StewMac Item # 0154-LB for both those Strat necks. It's great fret wire.
