I was thinking about taking my rosewood Strat through the US and on to the UK but likely now won't. Just out of interest, if it's non-commercial is it necessary to even mention it at the border or are you obliged to regardless? I've read the guidelines but they don't say.

If it is travelling with you, there is no problem, it is part of your personal property, no cites needed unless it is a LOT of rosewood (say a big piece of furniture).
EDIT, I am completely wrong, and it is very dangerous to take any rosewood through customs, you run the risk of immediate confiscation. But I'll look after that guitar for you until you return.

You must arrange CITES going into the UK. They are strict!

I've got a really nice 1985 Fender Squier Strat neck that has been scolloped. I'm going to put that one. It's got a little bit of relic-ing on the headstock so looks really good - really finishes the Jazzmaster off. Feels fantasic too, takes it a step up.

Sensitive choice there. But I have to say I'm a little disappointed that you aren't going to convert it to a 7 string. If you do decide to go that route, I'd suggest also installing a Floyd. And hit me up for some EMGs as well.

I probably wouldn't go a floyd on this one, now that I've put a floyd on my 335, but this bigsby conversion kit looks like a good idea.

Nice, I'm considering fitting a bigsby to my Strat! But I think a Kahler would capture the essential JM vibe better. On a JM, you really need a trem that requires routing, as there's far too much wood otherwise to deaden the tone.
Would love to see photos of that 335--it must look really classy.

You'll need to redo the headstock though. Single Coil will sort you out.
