Pretty sure he runs his amps clean, getting his drive from a modded BD and a BB preamp. There are two overdrive tones he switches in and out of, one I like and the other not so much. I have no idea what he used for either of them! Could be a pedal each, or one into another...
Love Andys playing and tone, always have. When I was 16 I HAD to get cruisers and a BB preamp because of him. Eventually I got the Lonestar Classic too. Could never quite get the tone right until years later.
Im really not up to play with his gear, but I think he was using a signature JHS pedal not too long ago.
I really dig that singing throaty/bluesy tone. Something I struggle to coax out of my 24 fret guitars. Guess I need another guitar...
That was great - what a masterful performance. Seems sometimes like he's incapable of hitting a wrong note! All those wonderful amps in that room though and he chooses the Mesa
I loved the little harmonics he threw in on the second verse, and I thought the way he covered some of the piano/vocal/guitar work as one was very clever. Don't know if the coin made too much noticeable difference; I've used a 50c coin for the last 15 years or so and I feel it adds a little more brightness and harmonic content... but then there's nothing special about my playing (unlike Andy Timmons). Would be interested to hear how he found it differed compared to using his normal pick.
Thanks for posting this clip up
