1959 Resonators

Post by Slowy »

A couple of questions inspired by Troy's Tricone:

Are 1959 and Republic the same instruments? If so, what's the story and why the change?

I remember someone talking about a big improvement by changing the bridge. Anybody know what?

Yes, made in the same Shanghai factory, Aersi. Bloke in Dunedin (Phil) has them branded 1959, the factory will stick your brand/headstock shape with a decent order. There are a big number of folks selling these with their brand on them around the world, all from the same factory.

I bought an Aersi branded one at Christmas and they are good players.

You need to do a set up and remove the black paint from the bridge T bar, a real tone killer, but the sound is really very good. I have owned a few Republics over the years, my current Aersi is identical to Troys 1959, matt finish tricone. Well worth the dollars.

I remember a smaller bodied Republic with a cutaway that I played for hours. It was wonderful.
