Re: Stratocaster or Telecaster preference
Ergonomically Strats but the right Tele, the best Tele, would win-out over the best Strat. Just more versatile and a far better bridge pickup sound.
IMHO.

You should try my tele out, has the best of both worlds! Just arrange that lunch with the family!!kdawg2a wrote:I love them both but for different reasons. The Teles bridge pickup destroys the Strat, and the Strats neck pickup destroys the tele. For any other single coil needs, P90 & Goldfoil.

Re: Stratocaster or Telecaster preference
Used to always prefer strats. But after giving Teles a proper go, I may have been swayed. The tele is such a great backup instrument - Vintagey/twangish sounds on the bridge pickup, that weird middle position, a nice round sound on the neck pickup, and hardtail makes it solid as. Teles seem to do the jazz thing much better in the neck position, strats are just too thin...
On the other hand, nothing beats the funkiness of a strat. Gotta have both!

Re: Stratocaster or Telecaster preference
I wonder if the simplicity of the Tele focuses the player on the music rather than tones. You'd maybe see a Tele as a more common composition instrument. Well, maybe.

Re: Stratocaster or Telecaster preference
I want to elaborate. There is nothing more versatile than a strat - its the swiss army knife of guitars, especially with tappable humbucker in the bridge. It does a great approximation of every other guitar but no other guitar can sound like it, in 2 -4 positions.
Tele does tones no other guitar can do, even the strat. I came to that late in life. The neck pickup on a tele is a wonderful thing. And the bridge is such a great powerchorder.
so get both.
nb: my hearing is shot to shit.

So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: Stratocaster or Telecaster preference
I've never owned a 'real' Tele. I've had one old Tokai and two I built myself.
The electric guitar I most regret is a Fender Nocaster I met nearly 20 years ago. Impossible price but I still think of it today. (Should have bought it; the marriage ended in divorce 2 years later anyway.)
Can't develop any real passion for Strats but I'd hate to be without a good one. As Bg says, Swiss Army Knife.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I’ve always been fascinated with JBs playing technique. Whatever he seems to play comes to life.willow13 wrote:Strat for me ... I LOVE tele's if Jeff Beck is holding it but I have never really got on with them

Telecasters are simple devices with less "stuff" to interfere with the sound.

Re: Stratocaster or Telecaster preference
My favourite guitar is a telecaster with a strat neck and two humbuckers.

Re: Stratocaster or Telecaster preference
yes but strats would outnumber tele on favourite sounds recorded by a long shotGrantB wrote:Telecasters are simple devices with less "stuff" to interfere with the sound.
David Gilmour hendrix,SRV or Mark Knophler on a tele?
I love tele for sure but apart from country they are a minority in the modern recorded world, which is probably why hipsters are switching to them
