Stratocaster or Telecaster preference

Post by MrDINO »

This is in no way a ‘ which one is best ‘ thing but a ‘ I prefer’ this one because as both are amazing instruments. Interested in hearing thoughts on this. It might even come down to the genre of music played. I probably move towards a Telecaster purely for that heftier bridge sound and don’t use a tremolo.

I prefer Strats, dunno why, but they just seem to fit my playing better. I seem to struggle with Teles. And I do use the trem.

I like teles, they just look cooler, strats are a bit too fancy pants, that said I like a strat like tele neck pickup for the best of both worlds :)

That's because you play Teles with tree trunks for necks.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I love strats for the 2 and 4 positions. Played a Tele for a long time but not sure it counts as I had humbuckers in it.
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Strat for lead (mainly due to pos 2 & 4), Tele for rhythm.

I find the body of a tele has more substance and sounds better when you dig in. Just my experience of course. And would depend on the pickups.
Nothing to see here.

I've only ever had 1 Tele, and played a couple others. From my limited experience a Strat is more versatile for my needs. I did enjoy the one US Tele I owned briefly, but there's nothing I could do, limited as that is, on the Tele that I can't on my Strat.

I think you’re right about versatility. There is a big change from bridge and neck on a Strat and the in between positions are another flavour.

I love them both but for different reasons. The Teles bridge pickup destroys the Strat, and the Strats neck pickup destroys the tele. For any other single coil needs, P90 & Goldfoil.

I have often wondered if I could install a Tele bridge pickup in a Strat. Other than the mounting screw positions are there any other gotchas? It's faded in my memory but I do recall loving the Broadcaster bridge pickup.

Tele, unless it's a superstrat (humbuckers).

Tele for simplicity and thicker tone.
Strat for looks and comfort.
