NGD

Post by Reg18 »

After searching for a good Gretsch and getting a flat NO from my wife about spending some extra money to get a proper Jap one I have settled on this Tele with TV Jones Pickups and a Bigsby. Sort of fills the Gretsch void in my life......until I find a way to get an extra couple grand!
A few forum members have owned this guitar and in fact I got some feedback from one that it didn’t have much resonance acoustically, which was enough to make me think twice. However after completely stripping it down to try and find a reason why it was a bit dead sounding I found 2 rubber sleeves on the bridge posts.....so after removing them now the bridge has metal to metal contact and it has instantly improved the zing/life of this guitar.
It really did sound fairly average until I removed these 2 tiny rubber sleeves! Amazing how that stuff can make all the difference.

And yes I’m aware I have pretty much bought the same guitar as I already own but with different pickups.

Awesome guitar. Is the neck pickup a TV Jones version of a Rickenbaker toaster?

TV Magnatron in the bridge and Supertron in the neck.
Not sure how they differ from the standard TV Jones pickups TBH. I may change them for some TV classics at some point though.

It’s was my only elec guitar for quite a while so I made it as versatile as possible. 5 way Strat selector, sep switch for just neck and bridge (in between Tele sound) and a bass roll off for just the neck pickup!
I may need to write a user manual if I ever sell it!
