You're basically paying money to lose more on resale. Might as well just drop a few hundred bucks on the sale price now lol.
GG has a point, Steve. And it might look pants to have a lemonburst top with oxblood elsewhere. Just flick it.

Haven't you just described the Greeny/Moorey/Hammety Les Paul?

Is cherry red so much different from oxblood?

i think you should strip it ...spend hundreds of dollars and weeks of time on it...
then those of us who suggested you strip it and have no investment in it can see the results and possibly go "ooh no that's awful" before clicking onto the next thread ....

That's where I'm up in the air. One one level I thoroughly agree with you however it seems to me that a large segment of the LP market is more interested in a figured maple top than a coat of dark paint.

Opinion seems to be split fairly evenly between the strip it and leave it and flog it advocates. Of course allowances have to be made for opinions arising from curiosity and voyeurism in the strip it camp.
Could be time to bump the necro for sale thread.

This. We'd all love to see what's under that paint and what the finished product could look like but as soon as you try to sell it folk will say it's not original ....

Stripping it won’t change the tone or improve the resale. It’s from this point that only you can decide.

Well, you wanted $4.5k for it, add it another $400 at least for a decent refinish. That's right into R9 price category, and it's still not an R9.

Maybe the stripping fans might like to stump up some cash and buy it to refinish?

Maybe, if that were to be how it was priced. However the planet is awash with R9's but very few R4's with burst tops and buckers ( if that was someones boat floatation requirement )
