1954 Martin 0017. All mahogany. Weighs about as much as a butterfly's wing. The picture is quite flattering, it has a lot of, er, character.

Re: The Acoustic Guitar Thread
And here is a guitar I call Salvador
The guitar maker is a chap called Burrell, from West Virginia. I think he built about 150 of these guitars before he retired. Mine is #112. he made some jazz guitars like this also.
Nothing on the guitar is straight or flat or even symmetrical. The soundbox is designed to fit around a human in a continuos curve--the top and bottom of the guitar curve in entirely different directions. The only straight lines on this guitar are the strings. Even the neck is subtly twisted to make it easier to finger as you move up the scale. You have to see it to believe it really. It plays very well, and it intonates perfectly, though it is not loud of course. You can play this guitar for several hours without your wrists or forearms getting tired, it really is quite amazing.
It is a lot of fun to take this guitar round to a luthier and ask them to set it up A few have baulked at it. When I showed it to Warren (Audio Zephyr--luthier) he looked at it for a long while then said he would do it, just to show me he could. He did it for free. Top Bloke!

Re: The Acoustic Guitar Thread
Oh, for sure. I've used various things over time, Acoustic Xciter, reverb, digital delay, a bit of chorus maybe. I even have a pitchfork that I use sometimes. Oh, and I do enjoy playing through my TS9.kwhelan wrote: not quite sure i agree there, amazing what some added reverb, or chorus or delay can do and even compression to boost the single note bits
But that sort of improves the tone without turning it into a completely different thing, as happens when you step on an overdrive.
And most of the stuff you mention is groundfloor stuff compared to electric guitar where the average pedal board has so many pedals. I don't even think most acoustic players have a pedalboard or want one

Leadbelly played Oscar Schmidt Stellas in the beginning and Harmony ones later, ladder braced with floating bridge and tailpiece. I am about 3/4 the way through his biography at the moment.Vince wrote:I think Stellas. being cheap, were played by a lot of the legendary, black, acoustic blues men. Don't stop there; you know what I'm waiting for.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.
