UBass
Any UBass owners on here, what is your experience with these? I am thinking of getting one of these and are torn between the solid body and acoustic versions. I like the idea of the percussiveness of the acoustic body.

Have an A/E version if that helps?

Any particular reason? I assume the acoustic is more percussive and woody sounding?bender wrote:yes. Very definitely the acoustic/electricbobiron wrote:Bender did you have a perference of acoustic/electric v solid body versions.

Yeah, I think they're a better instrument in their own right. The solid ones just sound/feel dead to me.bobiron wrote:Any particular reason? Ok thanks Ben, I knew would have a good reason.bender wrote:Yeah, I think they're a better instrument in their own right. The solid ones just sound/feel dead to me.bobiron wrote:Any particular reason? I assume the acoustic is more percussive and woody sounding?bender wrote:

I need to spend some quality time with both of course. I have briefly played an acoustic one, but not through an amp and have not played the solid body at all. Maybe I am in love with the idea and not the execution. My basic need is a lighter and small bass that has some balls. I have considered a short scale (30") option too, e.g. Mustang.

Re: UBass
Yeah the Mustang certainly has balls, still thinking what I actually need versus what I think I like. The woodiness of the Bass is a sound I really like, its not as rich of a sound as as standup of course but is a nod to that.

I found the best sounds I got out of it were a combination of the DI out and a mic pointed at the neck/body join.bobiron wrote:Yeah the Mustang certainly has balls, still thinking what I actually need versus what I think I like. What about something like a Hofner Violin bass? They've got a lovely woody thump to them.

Re: UBass
I’d second a Hofner over UBass. I’m pretty Bender got the uke off me, I still have my 500/1. Light and effortless to play, great thump and can really growl when you dig in. Decent string bass vibe if you play it like one too, would be interested to hear what a piezo might add in that regard.
