Changing pickups in a Suhr Strat with SSC system
As an alternative to my scheme to swap my Suhr Classic Pro HSS for a Classic Antique SSS, I'm wondering whether it would be possible to simply drop in a SSS loaded pickguard into my HSS Suhr body. What I don't know is how the Suhr Silent Single Coil noise cancelling system actually works and if it will be compatible with other pickups. Is the Suhr system built into the pickups or is it something separate, inside the body cavity??? Anyone had experience with this system?

Proposed new pickups would be more vintage-y Strat pickups, not sure exactly what at this stage.

Re: Changing pickups in a Suhr Strat with SSC system
The Suhr system is separate from the pickups, and it is easy to wire (just connect the black leads to the SSC and leave the rest as it is).
It will only work if you have two clockwise wound pickups with north top magnets, so Suhr use two neck pickups and a bridge pickup (not RWRP). Some Seymour Duncan pickups fit this description (I think the antiquity Texas hot do, but please double check).

if you've got a reverse wound mid pickup - can you just reverse the wires to get matching polarity?

I don't think that works in this case.AiRdAd wrote:if you've got a reverse wound mid pickup - can you just reverse the wires to get matching polarity?

Sounds like it's a dummy rwrp coil...
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

I'm feeling like the dummy here. All this direction of winding, upside-down polar magnetic north-south phase invertor stuff is making my head spin.

I think I'll just stick to plan A - sell what I've got and get the other model. Much easier.

You could just try the loaded Suhr pickguard + antique pickups (v60lp) or whatever. I can swap the pickguard for you if you end up doing that.Conway wrote:I think I'll just stick to plan A - sell what I've got and get the other model. Much easier.

Re: Changing pickups in a Suhr Strat with SSC system
When you buy one of those SSC thingies from Suhr, you need to specify how the pickups are wired, they have a few options. But I think if you drop in another Suhr pickguard, you'd be ok. But if your middle pickup is rp/rw, it will not work properly (on that pickup). Just be sure to order all pickups with the same polarity and I think you will be fine.
