Re: Strat chat
didn't last more than a minute, I really hate that kind of strat tone and playing, every other note he does the 'thunka' across all strings. And that tone is just bleugh, reminds me of everything I dislike in srv Sets my teeth on edge.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: Strat chat
That rake is different from what srv doesI think... to my ear anyway. This sounds like a slightly slower and more deliberate rake across the strings muted by the pick hand. SRV did a lot of his "thunka" muting with his fretting hand, which I don't mind at all.Bg wrote:didn't last more than a minute, I really hate that kind of strat tone and playing, every other note he does the 'thunka' across all strings. This kind of rake, used to this excess, absolutely twists my nipples too. The bouncy playing and tone I quite like though.

Re: Strat chat
Strat original frets, I'm so going to refret to Gibson style...some day. I only realised recently that the handbrake is on when I try and evolve my vibrato to somewhere near good. Fingertips are attempting to create fire rubbing on the fretboard.

Re: Strat chat
yep I'm refretting everything with nice tall frets, one guitar at a time! Only the fernandes tele really needs it now, they're literally matchsticks, lol.calling card wrote:Strat original frets, I'm so going to refret to Gibson style...some day. Re: Strat chat
I have always wanted to try my hand at refret, level and crown. Would take me forever to do these days. Would rather build a DIY PLEX machineBg wrote:yep I'm refretting everything with nice tall frets, one guitar at a time! Re: Strat chat
It really doesn't take that long. You don't need special tools either, you can make most of what you want. I reckon 2 - 3 hours for a refret on one of mine, I'm not fussy about the odd mark.

Re: Strat chat
Why not have an open day next time that you do a refret to show us how to do it?Bg wrote:It really doesn't take that long. You don't need special tools either, you can make most of what you want. I reckon 2 - 3 hours for a refret on one of mine, I'm not fussy about the odd mark.
