Whammy/Tremolo bars...
I just had a count up of whammy equipped guitars to fixed bridge guitars I have. Results were interesting, to me anyway....
Solid body electrics - 10 currently.
Fixed bridge guitars - 2.
Trems that are locked off/blocked off - 0.
Trems that are full floating - 6
Trems that are dive only - 2 *edit for clarity*
so 80% of my guitars have trems, which I use - normally without even thinking as I keep reaching for a bar on the tele (oh god I might have to fit a bigsby onto it!) So I don't do any big divebomb stuff, just the odd dip or touch of it, maybe a chirp.
Just an observation - anyone else really like to wobble their wanger 80% or more of the time?

Trem bridge never gets played.
Go back 20 years, when I wanted to be Jeff Hanneman, trem bridge was used 95%

So...if (out of 10), 6 have trems and 2 are fixed. What are the other 2?Bg wrote:I just had a count up of whammy equipped guitars to fixed bridge guitars I have. Results were interesting, to me anyway....

I fix all of my Trems. I'd be another thing I'd have to learn to use - so I've put it in the too hard basket!!!!

I should change that, by implication there are 8 guitars with trems - 6 full floating and 2 dive only....LucyTheSpud wrote:So...if (out of 10), 6 have trems and 2 are fixed. Re: Whammy/Tremolo bars...
You don't have to use them much, like me I just like to be able to wobble them on occasion. Just a dip on a harmonic can be pretty effective. I don't exactly do squealies or bad horsies or anything haha.AiRdAd wrote:I fix all of my Trems. I'd be another thing I'd have to learn to use - so I've put it in the too hard basket!!!!
I just didn't realise how much I use them till I picked up the tele earlier and reached for the bar so many times in a space of 10 minutes lol... perhaps its just early onset alzheimer's.

Re: Whammy/Tremolo bars...
You should set them up, when set up right they just hold tuning perfectly if nothing else!HackSaw wrote:2x FR Trem

Guitars with trem are in serious need of a setup though.

6 solid body electrics all up, 4 fixed and 2 have full floating trems. I enjoy fanging the whanger, I usually find myself reaching for it subconsciously too.
Loving it so far

Re: Whammy/Tremolo bars...
Ah im with ya now. I used to have 1 strat floating and 1 strat dive only but i always just end up missing the upward bend if i dont have it on the bar. Bend a note with your hand, then bend up with the bar. 2 stage bending anywhere up to a minor 6th. Great fun. Add a whammy pedal (or eventide in my case) and you have a cool effect of bending an octave in 3 harmonic stages.Bg wrote:I should change that, by implication there are 8 guitars with trems - 6 full floating and 2 dive only....LucyTheSpud wrote:So...if (out of 10), 6 have trems and 2 are fixed. 7 x full floating floyds
1 x dive only floyd
