I've always liked the "made in Mexico by Mexicans" vs "made in the US by Mexicans" explanation ;-) Although... The Wall may change all that...

Mexis are too shiny. Unforgivable.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I like American because everyone else likes American.

Well actually it's because the rolled fretboard edges and polished frets make me happy.

I like that too, and I reckon its more accurate than most people realise. I've never seen heard someone playing a Strat and thought ugh sounds awful, must be a mexi.

I do like the rolled edges on the MIA but as bg says you can roll em yourself? though the last time I googled that I found a youtube video that had some guy taking a screwdriver to his neck, so Im not sure whats involved.

honestly for the life of me my ears can never tell where a guitar is made, and my hands seem to struggle at this also. I have 2 guitars that are US made, a couple of chinese ones and even an indonesian one and gee they are all great in their own way.....maybe I need to give up playing if I can't tell the difference

A screwdriver does the job indeed, or sandpaper....

fender are an odd bunch of people imo.

making a guitar for each price point floods the market with stuff that's almost the same.

even his bollox about the USA Fenders harking back to history. with its 22 frets, HSH routing etc I don't see the correlation between historical spec and what is built today.

the facts contradict the marketing BS.
There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

The 'made in USA is best' attitudes I read coming from USA ppl are often tinged with a nationalistic superiority complex, like only they are capable of making something well. We all see what happened when Japan was allowed to build Strats that were not required to be lower specification budget models. They kicked USA ass. I am sure if PRS allowed his private stock gats to be built in Korea, they could do it well. Given the same specs, tools, training, QC, materials, etc, an instrument can be well built anywhere in the world.

Well, I guess they've grown up being told that its the greatest country in the world and that blind patriotism is the way to go so anything that invalidates that could cause some cognitive dissonance when they come across a well made foreign product. (Great now Im probably on a list somewhere for putting that opinion out on the internet)

I think a lot of people though, just want to own "the real deal", and so many of these were originally manufactured in the USA.

Let's be honest though, the original stuff coming out of Japan (cars and whatnot) was not up to scratch, only because of kaizen and other incremental practices did they get to where they were/are still in some cases.
