lots and lots of options
Buuut at the end of the day you cant beat fender JM/Jag. Keep an eye on reverb for any of the mexi lacquer series like ben has
Other options in affordable ranges are dipinto galaxy, some of the eastwood range and yes the charvel surfcaster tho that is a massive unknown quantity
No secret that I like jags. Any jag (jap or mexi) will be right up ther as a surf beast with a fender 62/65 usa pickup upgrade and tweaking or replacement of the trem to a ventag eusa or mastery set up
Reccomended surf type guitars
