Those 65 pups are beautiful. Bright, articulate but with plenty of bite and that gorgeous jm break up.
The neck is fat, wide and comfortable. If there was a weak point it would be the slightly think tacky lacquer on the neck, but that's an easy fix.
Hands down the best playing and sounding jazzmaster I've played. And I'd say it'd stand up to 95% of the USA avri jazzys.
Good score. Glad it lives along the road from me ;)
Is this not a USA AVRI jazzy?

Quick, build a wall around it.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Yep. It's ace. Jazzmaster -> Bandmaster = fun times!

Neck is getting a rub down with some 0000 synthetic steel wool ASAP to de gloss/de stickify it. Otherwise it's awesome!

I've played the Jaguar from this line and I agree about the neck tint being almost a little too orange. I don't recall much about the trem but the Mastery stuff is obviously a major improvement.

How's this compare the Japanese one you had?
Well, the neck profile suits me far better, so it's instantly ahead, but even setting that aside I think it's a better feeling instrument. While still glossy, the finish doesn't have that thick, plasticky feel to it. The Jap one was still a great guitar though.

These JM pickups are an interesting design as they have a lot of air around the coil, the bobbin flanges are big, but the coil is small. I picked up (sic) these from tardme long ago, they were out of a JM. No covers came with them.

Those are out of a Japanese JM. They're really different to original JM pickups, which are much shorter and almost entirely full the bobbin.

The AVRI I have coming has a similarly tinted neck. Just a bit darker than I'd have expected. If it looks half as cool as this I think I can live with it.

Just out of interest, can I get a pic of the back of the neck?
AVRI? Jazzmaster or something else?

And yep, will post some pics of the back of the neck for you.

That creamy custom style looks more like what I would expect, its not as thin either. Are yours the creamy custom style?

Thanks. Just interested as I think my incoming AVRI has a similar tan. It's a '62 Strat in Shoreline Gold.

Yep. It came stock with Fender AVRI '65 pickups which look pretty much the same.

Very nice Ben - and glad to hear it's a winner playability wise. The neck for mine seems to be taking forever to be made up.

And the underside of the 9th fret, with a piece of white paper for colour reference (I didn't have any fanta):

Cheers! It's even better post rub-down. Silky smooth once the gloss was taken off it. I'm slightly tempted to rub the body down too- start it on it's natural relic journey.

Neck is exactly the same shade as mine by the looks of it. I quite like it. Much nicer than those anemic-looking jobbies.
