Fender truss rod screw ...
I just had a peek inside the neckplate of my 1989 workhorse strat ... and the little screw that adjusts the truss rod (I think) ... its like just lying on its side
The neck seems fairly straight ... is there any need for concern

From memory the high E is 0.10 .. and standard tuning ...Yoda wrote:Just out of curiosity, what guage strings are you using and is the guitar tuned to standard pitch?
But the guitar has had its fair share of kicking around and has been taken apart several times ....

Hmmm. Odd.
Please define "workhorse Strat". I mean, what kind of Strat do you have?
Something seems amiss to me. I've owned a number of Fender guitars over the years. Never saw one strung with 10's to standard pitch that didn't require tension on the truss rod. Maybe 8's tuned down a whole step ... maybe. Are you sure it's the truss rod?

Matt, my MIA Strat has only a very small bite on the truss rod at std pitch with 10s. At the optimum setting (lowest possible action) for me, the truss rod is totally loose and rattles in the neck if I knock it. Therefore I have to put a small bite on it to stop the rattling.
Maybe Sicklehut is the same?

He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...
Huh.
Damned peculiar.
How much relief are you running, Doc?
Fender says to run between .008" and .010". For my guitars, that is. Different necks have different specs depending on cross section and fretboard radius.
I run both of mine at .008".

That sounds more like the neck tilt screw than the truss rod nut, which is probably visible at the foot of the neck between the fretboard and the edge of the pickguard. It doesn't matter much if that's loose as long as the action is set correctly. Just nip it up to stop it rattling.Sicklehut wrote: Its a 1989 USA Standard ... yes .. the nut (Allen key nut)
