I think importing is definitely the way to go. I bought a Schecter blackjack here in NZ a month back and they didn't even have a schecter case in stock. I rang the Rockshop asking what cases they had in stock. They said none at that moment, but if you give us a deposit we'll get some in....
I said W.T.F!? Buddy you obviously need some in stock, and I want a plain nice leather strap. He said a moulded plastc case similar to a Gator would cost approx $220 ,and the strap around $90.
The moment I hung up the phone I rocked onto the music123.com website and ordered a Gator GC case, & Planet Waves leather strap.
SIX BUSINESS DAYS LATER they arrived from the courier
$221 New Zealand dollars all up! No GST or duty (you're zero rated to $400 anyway, plus NZ customs don't charge duty on guitars..)
Why would you swallow the NZ retailers crap?
Go the Kiwi dollar! Go the internet!
That's my humble opinion anyway.

I've imported around $10k in gear over the last 3 years, and never had a problem. I shudder to think what it would have cost me to buy locally, if they were even available here.

Which case are they trying to get for you. My Burns came with the Hiscox liteflight. IT's a wicked case, very well put together.

I found music123 to be a wicked place to deal with.
I got some humbuckers from them and it took about 2 weeks for them to turn up.

Just a pity they won't send Boss pedals. Would love to get a cheap DD6

I've been thinking more and more about getting some gear from an online trader like Music123 or Guitartrader. There's a hell of a lot of gear that we can't even get here. Even from brands like squier!!!

My problem is that being a musician, my bank won't give me a credit card. Puts a large spanner in the works.

I'm with ANZ at the moment. I'm gonna change banks soon though. I've heard that Westpac are pretty generous when it comes to CC's.
