Mother in Law has an old parlour guitar, its about 55 years old. It has two strings on it currently, I wouldn't like to hazard a guess when it was last strung proplerly. Anyway she wants me to put some strings on it. Is it ok to bang steel strings on or would it be better/safer with nylons? Its got a trapeze style tailpiece is movable - presumably for intonating? Cheers dudes
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Personally - I'd use nylon, but I'm a wuss...

yeah the two string thing was to indicate that there had been a little tension in the neck up until now.

Nylon. As they are cheap and won't bend the neck

Indeed, nylon string are the safest option, but not neccesarily the most correct choice. Post a picture of the gat if you can...
