Benedetto Guitars

Post by ash »

Yoda posted a link to a Fender Custom Tele and I was interested to note a link to Benedetto Guitars on the page. Bob Benedetto is possibly the Worlds foremost Archtop guitar maker. He really knows whats going on and used to strictly hand make every part.

Looks like he's sold at least part of his brand to Fender as is now doing production line archtops and solid body SINGLE CUTAWAY LES PAUL lookalikes!!

Maybe you could bait Gibson with this, Yoda. Now that would be a real shit-fight

Interestingly he uses a spruce top on these. They look like they'd be a sweet instrument for Jazzy stuff. Bet they don't come cheap either...

Fender hired him to design some of the Guild archtops a few years ago, namely the Stuart and Johnny Smith Award models. I believe Fender may even own Benedetto guitars now.

Both Fender and Gibson have been going to town buying up smaller guitar makers the past few years.

I'm not interested in communicating with Gibson anymore. That ship has sailed. They only respond with quotations of corporate policy. Nothing meaningful or useful in any of their communiques. It's just like banging your head against the wall for no other reason than because it feels so good when you stop. So I did and it does.

I hadn't heard of them before.

There's something just 'right' about an LP in black on black, isn't there.

The black on black is a design classic in my opinion. As for the woodgrain ones- I guess one coul always paint it...
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...

That was the guitar I always lusted after, Doc.
A '58 (or reissue cuz I certainly couldn't afford an original) black beauty. Turned out I couldn't afford a re-issue either. Looked at a Standard instead. Then I got seduced by that lovely maple you're so keen about.

Yeah, and the solid bodies at US $5-7k are not exactly placed to compete with the mighty Samick!!

I'd love to try one out, but I doubt that theres one within 5000km of here!!!
