Nice writeup Ash, real easy to see what you describe.

Can you tell me what the deal is with the pic above the scarf join example? It looks like the tuners have been replaced / lacquered over / something funny. There seems to be one screw per tuner (the top screws) that screw into a little wood washer type thing but not the tuner itself... Confused? Me too, but I'm sure you'll know what I mean!

The original Klusons have been replaced with Grovers. You can see the marks in the lacquer where the Klusons squashed into the headstock. Klusons have two screwholes, Grovers only have one screw into the tab on the bottom. They have put the spare screws back into their original holes just to make it look a bit tidier.

Evening all,

Some guidance for a friend would be much appreciated.
He's found this beaut in the UK and just wants some reassurance everything is kosher. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131788555547

Looks good to me with the neck binding etc and even has the canada badge on the case which is correct with the era.

He's slightly concerned with the tuners as they should be the "tulip" shaped ones if all original as advertised. It's also stupidly clean for a 22yr old guitar.

It's very similar to mine except mines actually been played!

Thanks in advance

Basic advice re Gibbys: if the finish is GREAT, it's a fake. ;)

Hi all, I've been offered what is claimed to be a 2014 Les Paul Custom 1960 reissue for a too-good-be-true price. It all looks pretty legit to me, aside from perhaps the quality of maple used for the top. I don't know if Gibson would let this slide, even as a plain top.

Thoughts?
