Protools is way too expensive to set up on 20 machines!
Maybe checkout Abelton live then bro. I've heard nothing but good things about it and I remember seeing somthing about good education licences/rates.

Plus it loves rewire.

Sonar!

Oh wait, that's not cheap or intuitive. Oh well, I still like it.

Might not be in the same league as what you're after but I found this on the weekend, http://www.mutools.com/products.html. It works as a rewire master, supports VST, can run off a usb stick and it's free. Initial play around looks like it might have potential, but I'm strictly amateur in this sphere.

Cubase LE sucks. Try Cubase SX3 because it's made of win, likewise try Nuendo but thats quite advanced. The most recent Cubases (4/5) have been brilliant.

Logic only works on macs (gay) but is a really good DAW. Pro Tools is shit, don't go there. Ableton Live is for the MIDI freaks but is still good with audio.

I use Nuendo primarily but I'm eager to get hold of a full version of the latest Cubase and leave Nuendo for post-production.

Look out for Presonus' new DAW, StudioOne too, cos that looks quite promising.

Seriously Dude, It sounds like you need Abelton Live, it ticks all the boxes in terms of your description.. Its probably the most intuitive DAW out there, jam on the fly remix on the fly etc... pretty wicked bang for buck too. Search it out.

Funny thing is that I love Cubase, but hate Audacity, and find Audacity really non-intuitive. I guess it depends what you've learned on. I worked for 3 years fulltime with Nuendo, so Cubase is natural for me. I'm using LE4, because again, it came free with something.
