NAD • 1990 Marshall JTM45
Picked this up last night, many thanks to Docwill for the trade. It's in simply fantastic condition for an amp of nearly 30 years
This is one of the early reissues as I believe they came out in 1989. Have just ordered a matched pair of Genalex Gold Lion KT66's so this thing is going to sound even better. My weekend is looking good...

That's cool. But I have to say it feels weird to see you saying that 1990 is almost 30 years ago. But the maths checks out. Wow.
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Fantastic! Happy NAD.
But you're not going to get the best out of it with those knob settings.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Looks great.
I had a combo from, I think, the same year. The early combos were a wee bit shallower which meant you couldn't fit KTs. Came new with 6L6 and that's what it still had in there.

Now all you need is a Fryette Powerstation or a house out in the wilds so you can employ it correctly

Just had a good hour with it, I can blend channels 1 and 2 to sit where I like them and that's giving me beautiful cleans. Jump on my Klone and that's all the drive I need, not window shattering volumes by any stretch but sounds bloody great. I'm lucky that my house is detatched and my 'neighbours' are often not home

Nice. Congrats.
I have one of the more recent reissues. It's currently having KTs installed as well as a power scaling circuit.

Mine had a PPMV fitted. Took the edge off ( around a third ) but any lower and it spoilt the tone.

Guessing it’s quite a bright amp at low volumes? I have the bass & mids dimed but treble on about 4 and presence halfway. I’m sure that would all change as the volume increases.Dharmajester wrote:Mine had a PPMV fitted. Took the edge off ( around a third ) but any lower and it spoilt the tone.
I’ve heard of the PPMV mod, seems to be fairly common on these types of amps.
