He's played on so many albums, only just found out he played all the guitars (apart from the solo by EVH) on Beat It!! So many albums done as a session guy, pretty epic!

Same as Molly. Saw him live on the G3 tour, tone was pretty good but yeah he kinda came across as just a good all round player but generally a bit meh. Have a few of his solo albums and don’t really find any of his songs particularly memorable.

I like his session work, pretty cool that he solos next to Joe Walsh on Dirty Laundry and doesn't sound over shadowed. He's a cat.

Nope, not even ironically. All that I hate about music rolled into a badly coiffed package.

Yeah saw him at G3 too and was a bit bored, didn't know his stuff at all, was really just hanging out waiting for Vai

He plays through two ecstacy's, how can that ever be wrong? Missed him when he did the Ringo Starr thing here not so long ago :( But yeah he's played on so much stuff you don't realise he's on. As jb says, he did the meat and veg of beat it.

Can't stand toto though, sadly.

I was indifferent, but a really great interview with him in the latest Guitarist magazine (no. 433 - I don't normally buy it but was at an airport... - bonus interview with Adrian Utley (Portishead etc)). Steve says "I'm not out there trying to blow everybodys mind like im the best guitar player in the world. Because I'm not. I'm not even close. I'm a journey man guitar player. And I'm proud to be that. I'm the guy you call to fix shit or fucking come up with a part...."
