Devin Townsend
This guy is a huge influence on me, heres a recent interview that gives a great insight into his thoughts on the whole "progressive" genre etc...

Re: Devin Townsend
Really interesting guy. I met him in Vancouver last year and had a chance to play his signature guitar that he's developing and its precedessor prototype - both heavy as fuck! He's not traditional at all in his style of playing, and he has wacky altered tunings which made for real challenges trying to follow
And yes, he has one of the most wicked (albeit often purile) senses of humour you will ever come across!

I've tuned almost all of my guitars to Open C, his main tuning, and loving it!!

He's one of my idols too. He is freakishly good at everything he does and genuinely humble along with it.
