thread needs bumping now were at the end
2016 never reached the heights of 2015 with marilyn manson - the pale emperor and Muse - Drones
too much overhyped sh$t like beyonce and a few disappoints like Kings of Leon
just couldn't like black star or moon shaped pool, did try
but it was like having a catchup with an old friend hearing RHCP - the getaway
so instantly recognisable and brings back so many good memories of their early stuff
can listen to it loopthru 2-3 times without getting tired of it
Best albums of 2016 so far.....

Re: Best albums of 2016 so far.....
Hmm I'm having a bit of a review and here are a handful of albums I liked.
Tiget Army - V
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsQEaCq ... V6pot7hSsC
^ It's pretty .. um.. like a bit of an overproduced-for-best-sales kind of sound from them, but definitely listenable.
The Neon Demon OST
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsQEaCq ... V6pot7hSsC
^ I luuurve synthwave and Cliff Martinez's OST for this amazing movie is totally on point. For me anyway; apparently plenty of people didn't like the movie. But anyway yeah, wonderful night time listening if you like dark, minimal synthy stuff and minimal guitars.
(Stranger Things was another quality OST this year btw.)
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - Forward in Reverse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLG7Kr_ ... WSDxNDuUlx
Funny thing, I haven't listened to this one all the way through fully but the bits I keep hearing I really like. (edit: ok I've listened to the whole thing now. It's banging.)
It's so wonderfully guitar-driven dirty-pop-rocky and starts with this super tasty instrumental which has me all hooked like and I like when vocalists sing in that medium-high range.
I'm looking through the wikipedia list of 2016's albums (obviously it's not exhaustive) and there are several I still need to check out, e.g. animals as leaders, NIN, Dean Ween Group, Der Naked und Famous... Pixies! I don't know how I missed checking these out at the time.

If you're an Americana softie like me, I'd defo take a listen to...
Sturgill Simpson - A Sailor's Guide to Earth. The guitar work from Loar Joamets is just astounding, but everything about this record is just ace. Simpson's no slouch either. Here's an older vid with him in a three piece:
Hiss Golden Messenger - Heart Like a Levee
Just awesome, awesome, soulful songs.

All the gear... absolutely no idea...
