Devin Townsend

Post by Kloppsta »

Any love for HevyDevy here? I came across these album commentary's he did for Ki, Addicted, Deconstruction and Ghost.

The guy is a bit of a musical genius in my eyes. Digging hearing the artists production commentary about each album as he plays through it. Great insight into the creative mind.

Massive fan here, love SYL and most of the DTP stuff (some is just a little bit too fruity). NOT a fan of his work with Steve Vai, haha.

SYL is mental, he is a creative nutcase, very much in a good way.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

DTP gets a bit Phantom of the Opera at times but I like that kind of guilty pleasure

yeah, i cant think of another artist who has so many different "layers" to his creative persona and output. i must admit i tend to prefer his more chilled out and straight ahead albums (i.e. Ocean Machine, Ghost, Epicloud, Ki) but I still enjoy the relentless brutality of SYL and heavy DTP. Its interesting because i saw in an interview that he really tries to make some of his productions so busy and over-bearing that they are hard to listen to but at the same time hard to stop listening to! I think he said that about the making of Alien. He nails that for me with the heavy stuff....i find it hard to start and hard to stop if that makes any sense! But yeah, the mellow stuff's where its at for me. Fav song would be Deadhead for sure! Love that chord progression and melody.

Yep, he's awesome, completely mad, but awesome!

I think my absolute favourite would be the Ocean Machine album. Probably followed by City (SYL) and then Terria maybe?
