Hi Jeremy, I didn't realise you were brought up in the Muslim faith. Do you still practice, and what changed your mind if not?
She told me baby when you race today just take along my love with you, and if ya knew how much I love you baby, nothin' could go wrong with you.

Nah, nothing against the 'genre' - I actually enjoyed quite a few of the songs linked to in the thread.jeremyb wrote:I get the vague feeling you don't like the genre
Yeah, but in this case its a particularly stupid and pretentious label.jeremyb wrote:a label is just that, a label

Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me"
( did I really just quote Billy Joel on a guitar forum?! )

Re: Post-Rock Artists
This might be a case of "hate da game, not da playa" Postpunk, postrock, post-anything is a pretty rediculous thing to tag onto a genre - but I wouldn't dismiss a whole bunch of amazing music because of some journalist coining a pretencious term to describe it.
Just say "(mostly) instrumental rock.. but not at all like Joe Satriani" and you're good to go Genres are meh.

Yeah, well... "rock"... images of guys with bare chests and big hair. 1970 or whenever. I like that stuff out of nostalgia, and it's very good, some of it. But it's not like I think "Wow, I've never heard this stuff before!!" It's not like it opens up any new vistas for me. It was good, it's done. YMMV.mitch.twentyfive wrote:First post for me. HI.

So in that sense, the various bands in this thread, to me at least, ARE "post" rock.
Mind you, it's a pretty old term by now, so it's not as if "post rock" is very original these days either.
+1 for Russian Circles.
"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.

the name Post-rock just annoys me a little. A lot of the bands put under that label sound alike, but you get bands like Russian Circles and And So I Watch You From Afar who sound COMPLETELY different, yet are classed as the same??? I prefer to call it instrumental haha.
How often is a band labelled by what type of singer they have??!!

Dude, genres are all about lumping completely different sounding bands together under the same banner...mitch.twentyfive wrote:Vince wrote:Yeah, well...
