Is your website down at the moment?

Yes. Our emails stopped working yesterday so we followed up with our web provider, who informed us that they ceased offering the service. Apparently they sent a single email in May to let us know.

Long story short, in the rush to get another email server up and running, we managed to F up the rest of the website too.

We hope to have it up and running again soon.

That would explain the series of emails I sent that you never saw.

I feel like that was a separate issue. This is a very recent, and somewhat severe development.

I'm pretty sure they are supplied to PRS by CTS but they are non-standard CTS pots.
Something about the custom taper just makes them more natural.
I never knew you could buy them. Were you referring to these ones? Look like they come with caps too!

Gibson did use 300K pots for some years, they used 100K pots too. My '91 had 300K pots, my '82 had 100K pots and my 2014 had 500K pots.

I don't know what specific years they changed them.

Wonder if 250 would work ok given how bright the goldtop is.

You could test your theory by putting a 470k resistor between the hot and ground leads of your pickups.

That would give you 250k volume controls for about a dollar.

I have some in the parts bin but the resistor trick is also heaps less work

In regards to high end, noob question: out of 100k, 300k and 500k which pot would make the les paul have less highs?

100K Volume pots will reduce the top end the most, it will move the resonant peak of the circuit to a lower frequency.

Note:-

Using a 500K pot in the volume position and turning it down to 100K is not the same as using a 100K pot. The overall "tuned" circuit is different with different values of volume pot.

Using a 500K pot in the tone position and turning it down to 100K has the same effect as using a 100K pot on maximum. So its always best to use 500K tone pots as you can always back them off to a lower value.

Personally I use 500K pots in Les Pauls, but I have used a 300K in the bridge position volume to get a thicker sound.
