So have decided to start rebuilding my early 2000's Tokai SG as im not entirely happy with its tuning stability, nor its looks.

Guitar as it is:




Has Kluson style tuners:



Currently has mini pots and an lp stype switch(excuse the tones being switched up):


Looks like Alpha pots:


So the kit ready to go on:


Pick ups are Kent Armstrong 6 Shooter and Rocker's.

Started taking it apart tonight:










So you can see its a little rough in places, but is in general good condition.

Marked all the tuners so they can be put back in if ever needed:


Frets are usually not too bad:



First lot of tools that have arrived, waiting on more fret related tools to arrive too:


Have left it at that as i cant be assed going to the garage to fire up the new soldering iron to resolder the pickups so i can take the rest out.

Have to take it to my parents on sunday to borrow the pilar drill to drill out the pot holes to 10mm as they are current 8mm.

Can certainly spend some money at the Crimson Guitars shop. Is it good quality gear?

So lost an update, but here is another one.

Used my rusty soldering skills:


And starting installing stuff:




Had to use the old pickup surrounds as the new ones were too small and not sold on having the switch surround.






Just need to make sure the tuners are in 100%, wire in the pickups and put the neck back in and it will be ready for strings and playing again.

Awesome man. I'm actually doing something similar with an old Ibanez RG 270 DX at the moment.

So a pick up didnt work so this happened:


Resoldered and this was the result:


Not the tidiest but it works.

Bolted the neck back on and recleaned and restored the fretboard and it came up waaaay better this time:


And all strung up:


All it needs is 11's(has 10's on it atm) and a setup. Nut is waaaay to high to play atm. Trying to decide if i take the nut out or cut the slots out.

Take the nut out, file its bottom until it sits at the required height. Then glue it back in with a couple of smalldrops of super glue. When i say file...use sandpaper on flat surface. Sand and try etc

Thats what i ended up doing last night, have way better action not. Just need to put the 10's on it and do the intonation on it.

Put the 11's on it last night and action is still a touch high for my liking but plays like butter and stays in tune!

Amazing how clear it is and how different the effects on the Firehawk sound now.
