Replacement bridge/tailpiece for Gibson SG... without modification
Chaps,
Which bridges can be straight swapped for the standard tune*-o-matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece? ie just using the post holes?
Has to be chrome for the looks and doesn't need vibrato. Thinking around the $100 is that's possible?
I want something to balance the neck dive but i don't want to whack in any extra holes or screws. I've already got a wider strap but i can still feel it dipping.
The satin/brushed finished stuff on there atm looks a bit naff too

I'm kinda confused between the strap button and bridge aspect of this question? What are looking to achieve? Less neck dive?

I'm after something that only uses the holes already in the body, i thought the strap button hole might be utilised in some way if needed?

I've not had neck dive on any of my SGs, but have you tried:
Kluson tuners
Strapping weights in the cavity
Attaching weights to the strap

Cheers for the suggestions. It's an 2014 SGJ, and this particular model comes with the Klusons fitted. I think weights will be the last resort. I'm quite keen to get a nice meaty bridge, that's also not brushed/satin finish

Ah I see. You want to replace the bridge anyway, so you're looking for something heavy while you're about it.

Having had a few SGs in my time I've not understood what this neck dive thing is. Is it when you have no hands on the guitar? If so, how often is that a reality? I know some people use a strap with an unfinished leather backing, to stop stop slipping. I'm pretty sure you'd need one hell of a tail piece to weigh it down enough when you're playing with no hands...

I use 2" Levys cotton straps. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MSSC8Blk
Never experienced neck dive with hands off SG. Might help that I naturally have plenty of um, surface area.
Not exactly what you're looking for but would add 250g to the body of the guitar.

Engraved one for twice as much.

Are you sure you want to put money into the SGJ? What about selling it to put toward a Standard?

Re: Replacement bridge/tailpiece for Gibson SG... without modification
Ok guys i get it, i just need a big grippy strap
but for my own curiosity, are there not any faux/dummy replacement bridges or tailpieces that i can just drop in available? without going the whole hog for a Bigsby or Vibrola set up?
Those Lyra tailpieces need extra screws drilled into the body for fitting?
I only got this guitar yesterday, and i have no gas for a standard. I like the SGJ!

If it still bugs you after you have changed your strap, add weight to the control cavity, rather than hardware to the top. It will be a lot cheaper!

I think a brass bridge and tailpiece will be expensive might add about 50g. A nashville bridge made for USA guitars after 2012 should fit. The amount of guitar parts I've ordered that don't fit right means I'm not going to recommend anything, but yeah they're out there.Mattallica wrote:but for my own curiosity, are there not any faux/dummy replacement bridges or tailpieces that i can just drop in available? without going the whole hog for a Bigsby or Vibrola set up?

So go get some fishing weights and duck tape! (probably more sophisticated products are available, but meh)Mattallica wrote:I only got this guitar yesterday, and i have no gas for a standard. I like the SGJ!

Doesn't the Derek Trucks SG have something like that on it? Maybe look into that.
