Alpha pots = Fail

Post by dylan »

About a month ago i purchased two linear pushpull pots from realtone. (they were the only linear pushpulls i could find).

One crapped out after a few days (short circuit when turned up to 10).

Now the second one has crapped out with the same fault. Contact cleaner only made the problem worse.

Dont buy alpha pots!

Does anybody know where i can get linear pushpulls that arent alphas?

Never had a problem with Alpha pots, use 'em all the time. I only use CTS and others in the odd case where I can't get an Alpha in the particular value/style I need.

Possibly ive had two from the same bad batch then. The replacement that realtone sent me for the first faulty one is working fine.

Never had a problem with any of the Alpha pots in my pedal or synth builds. But none of them are push-pull.

just an update on my experiences with alphas - the replacement that i got for the first faulty one lasted about a month before it went faulty like the other two, so i put the prs audio taper push/pull tone pot back in as a volume and it works perfectly.

so out of three alpha pushpulls, one lasted a week and the other two about a month.

they were the only pots ive ever had fail that couldnt be fixed with a squirt of contact cleaner - ive got guitars from the 80's where the pots are still fine.
