So gig was last night... it was amazing, really really good.
Especially because their gear (both Mastodon and Gojira) was sent to Los Angeles instead of Auckland so both bands played the show on local borrowed gear. Guitars, amps, pedals, picks, everything!
Still sounded mint though

Re: Mastodon/Gojira
Despite them endorsing a bunch of stuff throughout the years, the core Mastodon sound is basically Gibson + Marshall with a boost or 2.
Didn't go this time since I felt rather indifferent last 2 times (2017/2015) I saw them, they were great when I first saw them in 2007.

Re: Mastodon/Gojira
Not sure about you guys but gojira totally stole the show for me. From the first bar they were tight, fierce, controlled and just absolutely professional... This is the third time I've seen mastodon and they're getting worse each time: sloppier, almost complacent and pretty lethargic.
I wonder about Brent's health too, his posture is totally fucked and he can't seem to sing any high notes like he used to (see Troy taking over the vocals on divinations), I just hope he's alright. Anyway, gojira were worth the money, mastodon for me were not.

Re: Mastodon/Gojira
Interesting... I thought Mastodon were great - better than 2015 IMO. Which vocal lines did he hand of to Troy in Divinations? I thought he did all of his...
Agree on Gojira though, they were awesome.

Re: Mastodon/Gojira
So during the verse vocals there's one line clean vocals then the next line is sort of gravelly. Brent did all of them on the album and when I saw them last, this time him and Troy changed it up.
Funny how Brann is still the best singer in that band though.

Oh weird, I thought Brent did them all on the night, musta been caught up in it!
And yeah probably true. Troy's voice is my favourite.
