Re: Show us your Telecasters

A small instagram picture of my tele, my first guitar, the first guitar I built: https://66.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9cjoasyqZ1reif91o1_540.jpg It's a funny shape becasue it was based on a plan in popular mechanics, which was an approximation of a tele at best. kauri body, NZ red beech top, tawa nec...

Re: Show us your Stratocasters!

I suppose it would be cheating to show ones I made for other people, but there are a couple I made for me first, and then sold without ever playing them outside of the usual testing and trying various options. Both to the same chap in Christchurch, I seem to recall. First one is a super light wester...

Re: Show us your Telecasters

I tried kwila in a number of formats including a whole Aurum guitar and just fretboards, but as a no-truss rod, no-finish neck is definitely the winner. I have a strat neck twin of that one still here for future use and a big chunk of very nice quarter sawn kwila that came from a member here Aaron, ...

Re: Show us your Telecasters

I think the neck on Simple Si's tele is one I gave Adrian. It has the best figuring of any neck I have ever seen. Elegant and lovely. Yes, that's the one. I had plans to use it on a korina cabronita, but I ballsed it up and promptly ran out of time, money and workshop. Good to see it in use as very...

Such a cool guitar!!!
+1. That neck is awesome.
Agreed.
Rosewood necked guitars are one of my favourite things, yet I've never owned one. They lend a wonderful attack characteristic to the note and just look and feel amazing.
The neck on that one is kwila, not rosewood. No truss rod.

Just not right.

Not right at all... Ash Heilo - Jamieson GK. It has a Roland GK MIDI pickup system built in, along with a Rio Grande BBQ/Texas humbucker set. The body is chambered mahogany with a flame maple top and maple/rosewood neck. I can't play a lefty properly, so its hard to tell for sure, but this seems ver...

Re: Making the best of a bad situation?

Yeah, already reflowed the solder to see if it made a difference but nothing. The reading I get is 2 Meg. In regards to why I didn't want a rewind, it's more that I don't know what it was meant to sound like and I feel I might as well buy a new one if it's going to cost the same. Rewinding will alm...

Re: Making the best of a bad situation?

As per JVPP's suggestion, if I was repairing it, the first thing I'd do would be to re-solder the coil to cable connections and see if that fixes it. Then I would unwind 100 or so turns and see if that reveals a break. You can sacrifice those 100 turns without much loss of signal. Non-obvious breaks...

Re: Anyone know where to get pickups repaired?

A cracked coil wire will read very high, but sound weak and thin. When the cracked wire is still held close together it's like having a tiny capacitor in series with the coil.

There's a strong chance it will cost more to rewind than a used one is worth.
